Bramhall World Circle Dance Group

Bramhall Circle Dance Group has been running since 2008 but things are a little different this year.

Circle Dancing in 2021

Pre-Covid Circle Dancing was usually done holding hands in a circle or wavy line. During 2020 and for the foreseeable future in 2021 we are dancing unjoined and in a socially distanced circle. In the last year we have danced in small groups outdoors when allowed, and on zoom during lockdown, and stayed in touch with regular zoom chats. In May 2021, we started dancing outdoors again, with the slightly larger group now allowed, but this is of course dependent on the weather and the dryness of the ground. Sessions are open to beginners and if you are interested in trying circle dancing please contact Terri for information about the date and location of the next session. We are dancing on Tuesday afternoons whenever possible.

We will provisionally be returning to the Bramley Centre on Tuesday afternoons in July 2021. It is likely that social distancing will still be required and we will be unable to accommodate everyone in a large group. So, initially at least, instead of a 1.5 hour session we will have two consecutive one hour sessions which you will need to book in advance.

Beginners are still welcome to join us, but please note the requirement to book in advance.

Lockdown Dancing October 2020

What is Circle Dancing?

In our group you will dance a mixture of simple International Folk Dances and modern choreographies, using lovely music often from Greece and Eastern Europe, as well as Israel, South America and elsewhere in the world. We are affiliated to a worldwide network which has benefitted from online connection during 2020.

The Bramhall group is run and taught by Terri Owen, and sometimes also taught by Bridget Ovey.

For Beginners

Beginners can start at any time as each dance is taught and there is always a mix of dances. Many will seem easy and relaxing, others may challenge you. Once you have been a few times and picked up some basic steps it will quickly become easier to follow dances which are new to you.
