Bramhall Circle Dance Group has been running since 2008 but things are a little different last year and this.
Circle Dancing in 2021
Pre-Covid Circle Dancing was usually done holding hands in a circle or wavy line. During 2020 and 2021 we have been dancing unjoined and in a socially distanced circle.
In 2020 we danced in small groups outdoors when allowed, and online on zoom during lockdown, and we stayed in touch with regular zoom chats. In May 2021, we started dancing outdoors with a slightly larger group, and during July 2021 we danced again indoors at the Bramley Centre, on Tuesday afternoons, but with two slightly shorter sessions and limited numbers. There will be no regular sessions during August but we hope to be back at the Bramley Centre in September with sessions at the original time of 1.30 to 3pm.
Sessions are open to beginners and if you are interested in trying circle dancing please contact Terri for confirmation of the September start date and times. see below
During August there may be some ad hoc outdoor sessions organised. Notification by email.
What is Circle Dancing?
In our group you will dance a mixture of simple International Folk Dances and modern choreographies, using lovely music often from Greece and Eastern Europe, as well as Israel, South America and elsewhere in the world. We are affiliated to a worldwide network which has benefitted from online connection during 2020.
The Bramhall group is run and taught by Terri Owen, and sometimes also taught by Bridget Ovey.
Beginners can start at any time as each dance is taught and there is always a mix of dances. Many will seem easy and relaxing, others may challenge you. Once you have been a few times and picked up some basic steps it will quickly become easier to follow dances which are new to you. Some of our regular dancers haven’t been able to dance with us on zoom or in the park and are feeling a little out of practice, so now could be a good time for beginners to join.
Remember, Call Terri first on 07713 681439 as pre-booking is still necessary for the time being.
